Wabi Sabi is an aesthetic concept from Japan and is originally composed of two meanings.  Thus, wabi stands for loneliness and misery, whereas sabi means having maturity and showing patina. Accordingly, the ideal lies in the beauty of the imperfect. Imperfection is the characteristic of this culture and describes that every being, no matter in which substance, is to be recognized in its most natural form. It was transferred to a sushi set that usually stand on the table. Through the wooden frame it makes a direct reference to Japanese architecture, where houses often stand on a foundation and not directly on the ground.
